LAST SEASON:

Regular season record: 14-5-9, 2nd place in Western Conference; lost to Seattle in semi-finals
Record against active USL-1 teams: 6-2-7 (explanation)
RD's 2004 prediction: n/a
2004 looked like a great season for Vancouver, until they hit a little 0-3-4 bump in the road in August.  Also, RD understands Vancouver is a very nice place to visit.  And that's all we have to say about the Whitecaps.  Hey, the Rhinos haven't played them since the Clinton administration, so cut us some slack.

LOCAL HISTORY:
- Rochester is 2-0-3 against Vancouver
- The last time these two clubs met was July 7, 2000, when Rochester lost 1-0 to the 86ers at Swangard Stadium
- Former Rhinos forward Eduardo Sebrango played for Vancouver in 1999, one season before he came to Rochester
- Former Rhino Martin Nash played for Vancouver before and after his stint in Rochester

THE LOWDOWN:
Nothing can spruce up a team like adding Bob Lilley as a head coach.  The Bobanator has already tapped a couple of his former players (Lemiere and Klein), as well as adding Canadian stalwart Watson and the hell-a-promising Ali.  Also, a few players from those punching bag teams formerly known as Edmonton and Calgary.  Of the weak Western Conference teams, RD sees the Whitecaps as the best of the bunch, and the only club with a legitimate shot at running with the big dogs.  Frankly, that has much more to do with Lilley than it does with any of Vancouver’s signings.  Ordinarily, we'd pick them to run away with the West, but since there is no more West, we'll guess they'll scrape to make the playoffs.

RD's 2005 prediction: 13-4-9; 5th place, and out in first round of playoffs
