You know how most movies and television shows that are set in high school star actors in their 30s? Well, I’ll Be Home features teen heartthrob Jonathan Taylor Thomas (Home Improvement) as a college student. And you know what? That’s the most original idea in this uninspired story. Thomas needs to get home from school by 6:00 PM on Christmas Eve in order to inherit the family Porsche, but he runs into every (un)imaginable obstacle along the way. Predictably, he also learns a lesson about the spirit of Christmas (insert gagging sound here). Sort of a Planes, Trains & Automobiles for the pre-teen sect. In the lead role, Thomas comes off as a Heathers-era Christian Slater –but without as much charm. (1:24 – for Home Alone-style violence and some mild sexual innuendo)
